ALGANSEE TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Police are investigating a Wednesday morning shooting at an Algansee Township residence in Branch County, which troopers say took place during an attempted home invasion.
State Police say the incident in the 1200 block of Burlew Road took place at about 12:30 a.m. as three suspects tried to gain entry into an occupied dwelling.
The suspects tried to break in the front door and broke multiple windows at the residence. The homeowners then tried to protect themselves inside the residence and fired multiple rounds from a weapon.
The suspects fled the area driving a full size four door sedan, dark green in color, which may have had a loud exhaust. The vehicle is further described as possibly being a Mercury Marquis or Ford Crown Victoria style vehicle.
One of the suspects was dropped off at Promedica Coldwater Regional Hospital with a superficial single gunshot wound. A hospital spokesperson said the 19-year-old male sustained a chest wound. He was treated in the emergency room before being transferred to an unknown hospital.
The occupants of the vehicle that dropped off the injured suspect did not stick around and fled from the hospital. State Police say the wound was not life threatening. Anyone with information about this incident or the suspects is urged to contact the Michigan State Police at (269)558-0500.
