KALAMAZOO, MI (WTVB) – A man who was badly burned Thursday morning in a house fire on U.S. 12 just east of Quincy at last report was in critical condition in Bronson Hospital’s Burn Unit.
81-year-old Lydell G. Lyons was flown to the hospital after Quincy firefighters found him near a couch and pulled him from the burning house.
The fire was reported just after 2:00 a.m. by a woman who lived at the residence. She was later treated for slight burns and smoke inhalation.
Quincy Fire Chief Michael Sherman says the fire appears to have started in the living room but it was not suspicious.
Sherman says four dogs were killed in the fire.
The Coldwater and Allen Fire Departments assisted along with the Branch County Sheriff’s Department Victim Services Unit, Quincy Police and the Michigan State Police.
U.S. 12 was closed for almost two hours because of the fire.
