COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Police Department’s annual report says reported crime in the city went up by nine percent in 2017 when compared to 2016 statistics.
The report is being presented Monday night to the Coldwater City Council. It stated the department handled 1,633 reported criminal complaints in 2017 which is up from 1,618 in 2016.
Crimes that showed an increase last year included criminal sexual conduct, burglary, domestic offenses, fraudulent activity and narcotics which showed a 37 percent increase.
Crimes showing a decrease in 2017 included robbery, aggravated assault and larceny.
Coldwater Police handled 10 percent fewer accidents in 2017, with 463 accidents investigated in comparison to 516 accidents in 2016.
