ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department says an Angola woman was killed and the driver of one of the vehicles involved in a four-vehicle chain reaction crash Tuesday afternoon was flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center.
The accident happened on U.S. 20 just west of I-69 just after 3:00 p.m..
Deputies say the fatal victim, 55-year-old Cindy Mirkle, was a passenger in a vehicle that was forced into the eastbound lane by the chain reaction collision and was struck by a semi tractor trailer.
Mirkle was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver, 54-year-old Tedd J. Moss of Angola, was taken to Parkview by the Samaritan Helicopter.
The other three drivers involved in the crash were not injured.
The Herald-Republican reports U.S. 20 was shut down for a time after the accident.
The crash remains under investigation by the Steuben County Sheriff’s office but it’s said that alcoholic beverages were not a factor in this crash.
