MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – In boys high school baseball, Coldwater opened their Interstate 8 Conference schedule Thursday in Marshall with a doubleheader sweep of the Red Hawks 5-2 and 4-0.
Zach Rigot was the winning pitcher in the opener as he threw five shutout innings. Alex Everett pitched the last two innings to earn the save. Bryce Lafferty, Austin Roby and Hunter St. Claire all had two hits. Lafferty and Roby also scored twice.
Porter Skidmore was the winning pitcher in the nightcap as he tossed a three hitter and struck out seven. Lafferty had two hits and two RBI’s. The Cardinals are 4-2 overall.
Marshall swept Coldwater in the junior varsity doubleheader 15-10 and 10-4.
Union City won their first game of the season as they defeated Colon 7-0 in a non-conference game. Winning pitcher Colton Johns struck out 13 as he tossed a one hitter.
Quincy swept a doubleheader from Centreville by scores of 4-0 and 8-7. The Orioles rallied for two runs in the last of the sixth and three in the seventh to pull out the victory. Caleb McCavit fired a one hitter and struck out eight in the first game. Matt Hagaman had a two run double for the Orioles. Trenton Adkins celebrated his birthday one day early with a two out walk off single to complete an Oriole double header sweep. It made a winner of Chandler Locke who had four RBI’s and also recorded his first varsity career pitching win. McCavit and Hagaman again recorded RBI doubles. Quincy’s record is now 4-4.

Coldwater got their first two victories of the season as they swept Marshall 17-3 and 17-1 in their Interstate 8 Conference opening doubleheader. Darlene Horn was the winning pitcher in both games. She also had seven RBI’s in the twinbill. Carly Duke drove in five runs in the two games.
Coldwater also swept the J.V. doubleheader by scores of 5-3 and 16-1. Emma Stanley and Jasmine Coppess were the winning pitchers.
Bronson lost the first game of a scheduled doubleheader with Mendon 14-9. Aubrey Ballou, Kaitlyn Czajkowski and Payton Robinson all had two RBI’s in the opening game. The Vikings were trailing 13-2 in the last of the fourth of the nightcap when the game was stopped.
Union City split a doubleheader with Colon. The Magi took the opener 4-3 but the Chargers took the nightcap 13-2.
Quincy dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Centreville by scores of 16-3 and 18-0. Hayley Wineland had two hits and two RBI’s for the Orioles in the opener.
