COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -The demolition project for the Old US-12 Bridge on Coldwater’s west side is expected to start Monday.
The E.T. MacKenzie Company of Grand Ledge will be removing the nearly century old bridge, after they submitted the low bid of over $147,000.
Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Director Jeff Budd says in his report for Tuesday’s CBPU Board of Directors meeting that the initial phase of the project will call for the bridge to be demolished, yet continue to provide support for the water main that feeds the Pilot Knob neighborhood.
A new pedestrian bridge was going to be added to the project, but new inspections and soil borings of the existing concrete abutments found they were inadequate and they will need to be replaced.
Because of that, plans for the pedestrian bridge have been delayed.
