COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was sentenced Monday after he entered a guilty plea in Branch County Circuit Court to an amended charge of attempted bribing, interfering or intimidating a witness.
45-year-old Brian Michael was given a nine month jail sentence, which was suspended in favor of 18 months of probation. Michael was given credit for 91 days in jail.
He was originally arrested November 16, 2017 after he allegedly tried to strangle a female acquaintance at a Jackson Street residence.
Michael was then accused by authorities a few weeks later of violating a personal protection order by calling the alleged victim numerous times in an attempt to get the original charges of strangulation and domestic violence dropped.
A violation of a personal protection order as well as a second charge of witness bribing, interfering or intimidation were dismissed in exchange for Michael’s guilty plea.
The November case that was filed in connection with the alleged strangulation incident was not part of the plea agreement.
