COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball, Portage Central swept Coldwater 13-2 and 12-3 in a nonconference doubleheader Thursday night at Lowe Field. The Mustangs won the opening game thanks to an eight run sixth inning.
Portage Central scored four runs in each of the first three innings in the nightcap. The losses dropped Coldwater’s record to 5-5.
The Coldwater JV team split a doubleheader with Portage Central. The Cardinals won the opener 19-11 but dropped the nightcap 17-1.
Marshall 10, Quincy 3
After holding a 3-2 lead, Quincy surrendered eight runs in the fourth inning and lost at Marshall 10-3. Logan Banks led the offense with three hits including a double. Caleb McCavitt and Matt Hagaman each had two hits while Braden Allman added a double.
Girls Softball—
Portage Central 4, Coldwater 2; Portage Central 12, Coldwater 6
Coldwater dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Portage Central by scores of 4-2 and 12-6. Portage Central scored all of their runs in the first inning of the opener. Coldwater outhit the Mustangs 9-4 in the first game. McDonald’s Player of the Game Darlene Horn along with Samantha Rodesiler and Avery Milnes all had two hits for Coldwater.
The Lady Cardinals had a 5-1 lead in the second game but the Mustangs took control with a nine run fifth. Rodesiler was the McDonald’s Player of the Game with three hits in the second game. Horn, Tyler Scheid and Drue Mullin all collected two hits.
Quincy 13, Marshall 7
Quincy won at Marshall 13-7 as Megan Kirt and Victoria Eifird each drove in three runs for the Orioles while Hayley Wineland had a triple.
