COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball, Coldwater split their non-league doubleheader with Otsego Friday night at Lowe Field, winning the opener 6-2 while Otsego took the nightcap 3-2.
Coldwater made good use of their three hits in the first game. One of them was a two-run homer into the wind by Oliver Winter. The Cardinals were also able to take advantage of seven walks. Hunter St. Claire had an RBI for Coldwater. Lucas Santure pitched the first six innings to get the victory.
Otsego scored twice in the top of the seventh of the nightcap to take a 3-1 lead. Coldwater pulled to within 3-2 in the last of the seventh on a bases loaded walk to Austin Roby but left the bases loaded to end the game. Brady Snow had an RBI single. Austin Santure and Brady Warner both doubled. With the split, the Cardinals record is now 6-6.
The Quincy Orioles spilt their Big 8 Conference doubleheader with Bronson. The Orioles won the opening game 1-0 as they handed Bronson their first loss of the season. Caleb McCavitt was the winning pitcher. Chandler Locke only had to throw three pitches to earn the save. The only run was scored in the sixth when Trenton Adkins and Logan Banks executed a double steal. Bronson won the nightcap 9-3.
Girls Softball—
Quincy swept a Big 8 Conference doubleheader from Bronson by scores of 11-3 and 10-6. Hayley Wineland homered and drove in six runs in the opener for the Orioles. Winning pitcher Kelsie Mainstone pitched a complete game and struck out eight. Payton Robinson had a double and a triple for the Vikings.
Mickala Signor had three hits including two triples in the second game. Signor and Megan Kirt both drove in three runs. Robinson, Dakota Smith, Kaitlyn Czajkowski and Dekoda Kline all had two hits for Bronson.
Union City swept a doubleheader from Springport by scores of 9-3 and 23-9. The Chargers are now 4-6 overall and 3-1 in the Big 8.
In J.V. Softball, Coldwater swept Otsego 14-4 and 18-12.
