COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two Branch County Board of Commissioners will face Republican primary challenges August 7, 2018.
The deadline for candidates to get on the August ballot passed at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
Fifth District Commissioner Randall Hazelbaker will be challenged by Alexia Rish who has led a drive to recall Branch County Prosecutor Ralph Kimble in recent months. The Fifth District covers the Fourth Ward in the City of Coldwater as well as Coldwater Township, Quincy Township #2 and the Village of Quincy.
Hazelbaker defeated Rish 205-101 last November to maintain his Fourth Ward seat on the Coldwater City Council.
Meanwhile, County Commission Chair Ted Gordon will face a challenge from Scott Stevens in the Fourth District, which covers the First, Second and Third Wards in the City of Coldwater.
Running unopposed in August will be First District Commissioner Terri Norris, Second District Commissioner Leonard Kolcz and Third District Commissioner Don Vrablic.
No Democratic candidates filed to run in the August Primary.
