COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Despite playing even in the second half, the Coldwater High School girls varsity soccer team was not able to overcome a 4-0 halftime deficit and fell at home to Parma Western 5-1 Friday night.
The contest was scoreless for the first 29 minutes, before Western was able to score four goals in a nine minute stretch before halftime. Two of the goals came off corner kicks.
Coldwater got on the scoreboard with 19 minutes to play in the second half on a goal from Carlee Larimer, assisted by Malorie Rzepka. Western scored the final goal of the game with 16 minutes to play.
Nadia Kiersey made 10 saves in goal, as Coldwater falls to 0-3 in the Interstate 8 Conference and 1-5 overall.
They will play at Quincy Saturday in the annual Battle of the Birds trophy game, this time being played on Quincy’s football field at 7:00 p.m. The Cardinals then return to Interstate 8 Conference action Monday at Marshall.
