RIVES JUNCTION, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School girls varsity soccer team scored two goals in less than one minute late in the game to claim a 2-1 Interstate 8 Conference win at Jackson Northwest Wednesday night.
After a scoreless first half, Northwest scored just two minutes into the second half off a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead. The Lady Cardinals tied the game with 3:16 to play as freshman Marissa Cox scored her first career goal, assisted by Malorie Rzepka. With 2:39 to play, Olivia Foley headed in the winning goal off a Rzepka throw-in.
Nadia Kiersey made 2 saves in goal as Coldwater outshot Northwest 15-5. The Lady Cardinals are now 1-4 in the Interstate 8 Conference and 2-7 overall. They will host Chelsea Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in the first round of the Coldwater Invitational.
The Coldwater JV team beat Northwest 4-0. Amber Sunderland scored two goals, with assists from Jayla Goodwin and Juana Mancera. The two other goals were own goals by Northwest.
Hanover-Horton 1, Quincy 1 (TIE)
After losing to Hanover-Horton 4-1 earlier this season, Quincy battled them to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night. Emily Hollenbaugh got Quincy on the the board first when she received a through ball from Bree Roush with one minute left in the first half. Hanover scored 10 minutes into the second half on a shot that went off the finger tips of the keeper.
Quincy is 7-2-1 and will host their Invitational Saturday.
