COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Traffic along US 12 on Coldwater’s busy east side commercial business strip near Walmart and Meijer was congested even more than usual for a while Tuesday afternoon following a two car injury accident.
Coldwater City Police say the collision occurred a bit west of the US 12 and Fiske Road intersection around 3:25 p.m. Tuesday. According to police, the crash happened as a westbound 1977 Volkswagen convertible was attempting a left turn into a parking lot and pulled into the path of an eastbound 2010 Chevy Traverse.
Officers said both drivers were women from Coldwater with the 63-year old behind the wheel of the Volkswagen taken by private vehicle to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital for treatment after complaining of rib pains. The 30-year old SUV driver escaped injury. The injured woman was given a ticket for failure to yield on a left turn. No names were released.
Coldwater Police say US 12 traffic through the area of the accident was slowed down for nearly 45 minutes while the crash was investigated and the two vehicles were towed from the scene.
