COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball, Coldwater swept Jackson Lumen Christi 6-0 and 10-0 in an Interstate 8 doubleheader at Lowe Field. Zach Rigot and Porter Skidmore were the winning pitchers. Rigot struck out seven in six innings of work in the opener. Rigot and Skidmore both had three hits. Austin Santure drove in three runs.
Skidmore struck out nine in tossing a three-hitter over five innings as the nightcap ended on the 10 run mercy rule. Brady Snow drove in three runs while Oliver Winter and Bryce Lafferty each had two hits.
Bronson split a Big Eight Conference doubleheader with Jonesville which left them two games back of Homer for first place in the conference. The Comets won the opener 7-1 but Bronson bounced back in the nightcap with a 16-0 romp.
Kameron Haviland was the winning pitcher in the second game. Brenden Bell and Hudson Wotta both homered while Brett Sikorski and Haviland both doubled. Sikorski had four RBI’s. Bronson is now 19-3 overall and 8-2 in the Big 8.
Union City remained hot as they swept a doubleheader from Reading 15-4 and 12-2. The Chargers have won four straight and 12 of their last 13 games. Larson Kever earned the win in the opener thanks to nine strike outs. Blade Gordon, Brendan Stuchell, Larson Kever, Grady Kever and Garrett Korn all collected two hits. Garrett Mead led the Chargers with three RBI’s.
Gordon was the winning pitcher in the second game as he struck out seven in five innings of work. Isaac Hunt led the Chargers at the plate with three singles and three RBIs. Korn and Mead each added two hits, Riley Rivard had a triple and Gordon scored three times.
Quincy was swept by the top-ranked team in the state as Homer stayed in first place in the Big 8 with 9-2 and 8-2 wins over the Orioles. The Trojans belted four homers in the twinbill. Homer used a four run first inning to take the opener.
Quincy only trailed 3-2 in the sixth inning of the second game before Homer broke it open with a five run outburst.
In girls softball, Darlene Horn and Mia Rzepka both tossed one hitters as Coldwater swept Lumen Christi 13-0 and 15-0 in an Interstate 8 doubleheader. Drue Mullin had three hits in the first game while Horn collected three hits in the second game.
Coldwater is now 13-11 overall and 5-3 in the Interstate-8.
Bronson split with Jonesville as they won the opener 7-1 but lost the nightcap 3-2. Aubrey Ballou struck out eight to get the win in the opener. Payton Robinson drove in three runs while Dekoda Kline and Kaitlyn Czajkowski both had two singles.
Czajkowski had a triple in the second game while Maddie Ratkowski had a double. The Vikings are 10-11 overall and 6-4 in the Big 8.
Union City swept a Big 8 doubleheader from Reading by scores of 13-0 and 12-2. Quinn Adams and Allison Adams were the winning pitchers. Autumn Carpenter had triples in both games. Allison Adams had three hits in the game she pitched.
Quincy remained unbeaten in the Big 8 Conference with a doubleheader sweep of Homer by scores of 17-8 and 14-4. Kelsey Mainstone and Morgan Michael were the winning pitchers. The Orioles took command in the first game with a seven run third inning. Megan Kirt homered while Rylei Sunday had four of the 16 Quincy hits.
Mickala Signor homered in the second game and drove in three runs. Quincy is now 10-0 in the Big 8.
