COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council is scheduled to introduce ordinances for first reading Monday night on a pair of rezoning requests that were given positive recommendations by the City Planning Commission last week.
One is for the proposed rezoning of over 20 acres of land on East Garfield across from the Branch County Fairgrounds and the Dearth Community Center so that a 102 unit manufactured housing development called The Enclave at Tall Grass can be located there.
The petitioners from Farrell-Roeh of Littleton, Colorado want to rezone the land from Coldwater Township R-3 Medium Density Residential Zoning to City of Coldwater Double-A One Family Agricultural Residential Zoning.
The land has to be transferred from Coldwater Township to the City of Coldwater and a resolution covering a Public Act 425 agreement is scheduled for introduction and first reading on Monday.
While the Enclave at Tall Grass development got a 7-0 positive recommendation from the Planning Commission, they were divided on the other rezoning request for a proposed small grocery and specialty goods store at 93 Park Avenue.
The Planning Commission voted 4-3 to make a positive recommendation to the City Council on a request to rezone the property from a residential zoning district to a C-1 Community Business District. Petitioner Talal Al-Abssi wants to open a store to serve the nearby Arabic neighborhood as well as the entire community. While concerns about parking have expressed, a petition with the signatures of 31 neighborhood residents in favor of the store has been presented to the city.
Final action on both items is expected to take place during the City Council meeting May 29, 2018.
