UNDATED (WTVB) – Police departments in Branch County have been getting reports from residents about a caller ID spoofing incident using “911” as the callback number.
The caller would say that a family member had been in an accident and asks for personal information.
Residents should be aware that if you get a call from the Branch County 911 Center, it will always show up as a 10 digit number – never as “911”.
Do not give out your social security number, credit card, insurance information, or other personal details over the phone.
If you have questions about the caller, simply hang up and look up the number to the agency claiming to be calling and call them directly to confirm who you are speaking with.
