COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Police Department reported to the City Council Monday night that in the first quarter of 2018, the number of criminal complaints in the city has gone down by two percent when compared to the same time period in 2017.
In addition, non-criminal complaints were down by 18 percent and vehicle accidents that were policed by officers showed a seven percent decrease.
Officers issued 22 percent more traffic citations but parking enforcement issued by officers was down by 32 percent.
There were 80 property damage accidents in Coldwater compared to 51 last year but the number of personal injury crashes handled by Coldwater Police dropped sharply from 38 in 2017 to five in the first three months of this year.
Among the crimes that went down were criminal sexual conduct, assault and battery and domestic offenses. Crimes that showed an increase included fraud, narcotics and traffic offenses.
