COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Fort Wayne man and his girlfriend are giving their side of the story following Wednesday afternoons alleged road rage and double stabbing incident in the City of Coldwater.
22-year-old Javonta Tyson is being held in the Branch County Jail on half a million dollars bond after was formally charged on Thursday with assault with intent to murder and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.
But Tyson says police have it all wrong. He say he was just trying to protect himself from two men who he claims were yelling racial slurs and attacking him.
Tyson says he tried to flee, but they chased after him and crashed into his vehicle with their pick-up truck.
His girlfriend, Priscilla Ringle, told WOOD-TV Tyson was just trying to protect her and her child, who was also in the car.
Both of the Coldwater men who were in the pick-up are recovering from stab wounds.
Tyson is scheduled to appear for a probable cause hearing next Thursday and a preliminary exam on May 31, 2018.
Coldwater Police say the whole thing started when one of the vehicles involved was slow to pull away from a green light at the intersection of US 12 and Sprague.
