UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball, Union City split their final regular season doubleheader with Constantine Thursday. The Falcons took the opener 10-7 before the Chargers won the nightcap 11-0.
Constantine took control of the first game with a six run sixth inning. Larson Kever belted his fifth homer of the season, the most by a Charger hitter in the past 10 years, and had two RBI’s in the first game.
The Chargers returned the favor in the second game with a six-run third inning. Winning pitcher Brendan Stuchell struck out six in five innings of work. Kever, Stuchell and Blade Gordon all collected two hits while Garrett Korn and Garrett Mead had two RBI’s.
The Chargers will take a record of 21-10 into next week’s districts at Bronson.
The Coldwater JV Baseball team split a double header at home against Pennfield on Thursday. The Cardinals won the first game of the double header by a score 7-5. Breydyn Cook got the win and Brady McFarland got the save. The Cardinals lost game two by a score of 7-2.
The JV Cardinals final record for the season was 8-21-2.
Girls Softball—
Quincy swept a doubleheader from Colon by scores of 11-8 and 12-11 with the second game going eight innings. Morgan Michael and Kelsey Mainstone were the winning pitchers on Senior Night. Mainstone had two triples in the first game.
Quincy fell behind 7-1 in the second game. The Orioles scored three runs in the last of the seventh to tie the game at 9-9. Colon scored twice in the top of the eighth but the Orioles responded with three runs in the last of the eighth for the win. Megan Kirt had four hits and two RBI’s in the second game while Taylor Todd had three hits.
The Coldwater JV softball team played their last games of the season Thursday against Pennfield and got a split.
Pennfield won the opener 7-3. Bailey Burkhardt, Mallory Kissinger and Anna Tappenden all had a hit for Coldwater.
The Cardinals won the nightcap 10-1. Emma Stanley was winning pitcher giving up only three hits. Mallory Kissinger was 3 for 4.
Coldwater finished 8-4 in the Interstate 8 and 20-10 overall.
