PAW PAW, MI (WTVB) – Two Branch County men are dead and a female driver may face charges after allegedly running a stop sign late Wednesday morning in Van Buren County.
The collision happened north of Paw Paw at the intersection of M-40 and 46th Street when deputies said the woman slammed into a pick-up truck. The truck burst into flames after it sheared off a power pole and the fatal victims were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as the driver, 87-year old Earl Tappenden of Coldwater and his passenger, 41-year old Abe Schwartz of Quincy.
The 30-year old Paw Paw woman that deputies are calling the at-fault driver and her 3-year old son were taken by ambulance to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment of their injuries.
Van Buren County Sheriff Dan Abbott says they will let the prosecutor’s office sort out the possible charges after their investigation is concluded and blood tests are returned.
