COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch-Hillsdale-St Joseph Community Health Agency Board of Health Thursday approved an enhancement to the Branch County Congregate Meal Program.
Community Action has been serving Congregate Meals for older adults in Branch County four days a week at the Coldwater Church of Christ.
The expansion of the program will increase dining options throughout the county by initiating a voucher program for Congregate Meals.
Community Action Director of Programs Chuck Asher wrote in a letter to the board that the restaurant voucher congregate meal enhancement will not change the total contract units or the cost per unit reimbursement to Community Action.
He said, “We see the restaurant voucher meal option increasing options and serving a larger geographic portion of the County. It would create new avenues for private/public partnership between Community Action and the business community as well.”
The program in Branch County will be modeled after the one offered in St. Joseph County.
The same donation request of three dollars a meal will be maintained.
Community Action plans to recruit and add restaurants in other areas of Branch County. They plan to have at least one restaurant participating in Quincy, Union City and Coldwater by September.
