UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Union City village officials met with several potential contractors last week as bidding is under the way for the Riley Dam project.
Sealed bids will be opened during the Village Council on Monday June 11th. The project is scheduled to be awarded by July 12, 2018.
The project is scheduled to begin on the day after Labor Day, with a drawdown of Union Lake of up to seven feet from the “normal pool”, which will leave the lake about one foot above the spillway.
This is being done so crews can repair both sides of the earthen embankment.
Some work is already being done at the dam which was built in 1923.
A line crew from the Village is re-routing and rebuilding the service line out to Riley Road so that the old line that runs through a swamp at the base of the earthen embankment can be removed.
