STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – In girls softball, the Coldwater Cardinals won their 14th straight game and advanced to the Division Two district semifinals at Sturgis with an 8-4 victory over Vicksburg Tuesday.
Vicksburg was an honorable mention team in the final Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association poll. Darlene Horn was the winning pitcher as she went the distance. Samantha Rodesiler had three hits including two doubles. Mia Rzepka tripled while Tyler Scheid and Drue Mullin doubled. Coldwater is now 22-11. They will play Harper Creek at 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning in the district semifinals. The winner plays either Sturgis or fifth-ranked Three Rivers in the finals Saturday afternoon.
Aubrey Ballou tossed a one hit shutout as the host Bronson Vikings advanced in the Division Three Districts with a 7-0 victory over Hillsdale. Dekoda Kline led the Vikings offensively with three hits and two RBI’s. Payton Robinson, Kaitlyn Czajkowski and Dakota Smith all had doubles.
Three Branch County teams will be in the district semifinals on Saturday. The Vikings will play Union City at 10:00 a.m.. Quincy will play at 12noon against Jonesville after the Comets defeated Homer on Tuesday 8-5. The district final is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
