COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Township Sunrise Rotary Club yesterday heard a detailed report on a project it assisted in funding this year that helped people in India pay for eyesight saving surgeries.
The Rotary International Ray of Hope Global Grant program included the money for the local project to fund the clinics that diagnose patients with cataracts in India. The project also provides transportation to the ophthalmology center for those patients who can’t afford the surgery. The grant will make it possible to restore sight to 1,350 people in India.
Eric Smith from the Battle Creek Noon Rotary Club and Cathy Lincoln from the Jackson Breakfast Rotary Club were the guest speakers Thursday at the Sunrise Rotary meeting in Coldwater.
Also collaborating on the project were the Mason Rotary Club, the Charlotte Rotary Club, and the Kakinada Rotary Club in India. Funds were also matched by two different Michigan Rotary Districts and Rotary International.
The $103,000 grant included a $2,000 donation from Coldwater Township Sunrise Rotary.
