COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Another large crowd was on hand Saturday at Waterworks Park in Coldwater to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Great Hospice Duck Race.
The event raises money for hospice services through Promedica Coldwater Regional Hospital. A special proclamation from the state of Michigan was delivered to Duck Race committee organizers before the race.
The ducks are put into the water from the Sauk River bridge on Sprague Street at the east edge of Waterworks Park, then float down the river past the dam, and then are collected by volunteers.
The first duck across the finish line was purchased by Louise Crist, who won the top prize of $2,018 cash donated by Dutcher Funeral Home.
The event traditionally raises over $20,000 for hospice services.
