COMSTOCK PARK, MI (WTVB) – Quincy’s Bryce Ruhl won the MHSAA Lower Peninsula Division Three boys long jump title Saturday at Comstock Park with a winning distance of 21 feet, three-quarters of an inch. Ruhl’s victory helped the Quincy boys tie for 17th with 13 points. Union City tied for 43rd with four points.
Ruhl also tied for ninth in the high jump as he cleared five feet, 11 inches. His teammate Jonathan Purvis was 14th in the discus.
Union City’s Gavin Hooker (22.93) finished fifth in the boys 200. Quincy’s 400 relay team of Ruhl, Devan Fisher, Luke Rufenacht and Ryan Gibson were sixth in a time of 44.05. The Union City team of Chad Bruce, Josh Watson, Austin Mosher and Hooker were 20th. Quincy’s 3200 relay team of Luke Hollenbaugh, Joshua Pepper, Erik Butchart and Nathan Nohr were 22nd.
In the girls meet, Quincy tied for 27th with eight points while Bronson tied for 48th with three points. Quincy’s Emily Hollenbaugh was second in the high jump as she cleared five feet, three inches. Bronson’s Keona Salesman tied for ninth in that event as she cleared five feet, one inch.
Bronson’s Jenna Salek was sixth in the 400 with a time of 1:00.39 and she was 12th in the 200. Quincy’s Madelyn Allman was 16th in the 300 hurdles. Quincy’s Makinzie Groves was 17th in the pole vault. Union City’s Bracy Swift was 19th in the long jump. Madelyn Thompson of Bronson was 15th in the discus.
Quincy’s 400 relay team of Madelyn Allman, Harmony Harpster, Emily Hollenbaugh and Mackenzie Horsfall were tenth with a time of 51.59. Union City was 20th (Camryn Thomet, Bracy Swift, Hope Austin and Lillian Bambacht) while Bronson was 21st (Madelyn Allman, Harmony Harpster, Mackenzie Horsfall and Emily Hollenbaugh) in the 1600 relay. Bronson (Keona Salesman, Meghan Vaughn, Alanna Mayer and Xochitl Garciawas) finished 20th while Quincy (Haley Crabbs, Harmony Harpster, Avery Rufenacht and Anna Turner were 22nd in the 3200 relay.
