COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Thanks to donations from some local lake residents, the Branch County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol Division has installed 19 new buoys which have lights on them for easy navigation after sunset.
The Sheriff’s Office says the buoys were purchased through donations from the Marble Chain of Lakes Improvement Association, Rose Lake Association and the Lake George Association.
Residents are being reminded that under Michigan Law, a person who moves or damages a buoy faces a misdemeanor.
Lights have already been removed from the buoys this year and one of them has been damaged.
State law also prohibits the mooring or fastening of a vessel to a lawfully placed buoy or beacon, except mooring buoys.
If you see anyone moving of tampering with the buoys, call the Sheriff’s Office at (517)278-2325 extension 2264 or call 911.
