COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Girls on the Run program is a beneficiary of Chemical Bank’s investment in the Branch County community. Once again this year Chemical Bank donated 200 cinch bags for all the girls and coaches participating in the 2018 spring season of Girls on the Run (GOTR). The bags were stuffed with other donated goodies and were presented to the girls May 24 at their recognition night.
The service and support that comes from Chemical Bank and others in the community has allowed the GOTR program to grow significantly over the past few years allowing girls from every school district in Branch County to participate. In 2010 Girls on the Run of Branch County had 72 girls. This year 163 girls registered for the program.
Girls on the Run of Branch County was organized to provide programs to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based positive youth development program. It is an innovative health education and wellness program that combines training for a 5k run event with life-changing, self-esteem enhancing lessons that encourage healthy habits and an active lifestyle in girls in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades.
The 10 week lessons starts in March meeting twice a week with teams in every elementary school in Quincy, Coldwater, Bronson and Union City. The season is completed with a 5k run held in conjunction with the Summer Kickoff 5k/10k on May 26 that benefits Girls on the Run.
