COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Branch County drug dealer who was caught selling crystal meth by Coldwater City Police in March was sentenced Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after entering guilty pleas to two charges.
24-year old Matthew Dunks II of Union City was given a sentence of 40 months to 20 years for dealing or manufacturing methamphetamine. He was given a concurrent sentence of 11 months to 10 years for being in possession of meth.
Three other cases against Dunks were dismissed in exchange for the guilty pleas.
Dunks was given credit for 97 days already served.
Coldwater Police said at the time of his arrest that a confidential informant provided a tip that led officers to arrest Dunks after he drove his car into the parking lot of Rick’s Party Store on Coldwater’s south side. Police were provided a description of Dunk’s 2006 Dodge Magnum and were waiting for the vehicle to show up at the store.
According to investigators, they were told that’s when Dunks was expecting to make a meth sale but instead was taken into custody. Police said more than 17.5 grams of crystal meth was discovered in the suspect’s car along with various drug paraphernalia and $1,000 cash.
Also in the vehicle were 13 notebooks detailing suspected drug activities. The money and car were forfeited by Dunks as a result of the arrest.
