COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Sherwood Township man entered a no contest plea Monday in Branch County Circuit Court to an amended count of attempted second degree criminal sexual conduct.
In exchange for his plea, the original three criminal sexual conduct counts against 43-year old Scott Alan Shelts will be dismissed by Branch County Prosecutors.
One count of first degree C.S.C. and two counts of second degree C.S.C. were originally filed after the Branch County Sheriff’s Department investigated accusations Shelts sexually assaulted a minor under the age of 13.
He was taken into custody in February 2018 at the Branch County Courthouse on the same day he was scheduled to be sentenced in a domestic violence case.
Shelts is scheduled to be sentenced July 30, 2018.
