ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A three year old boy was rescued from a house fire early Thursday morning west of Angola, Indiana but three police officers were injured trying to save the youngster.
The Indiana State Police say a State Trooper, a Steuben County Sheriff’s Deputy and an Angola City Police Officer all required hospitalization following the fire in a single story home at 4275 West 100 North which broke out just after midnight.
Two Indiana State Police Troopers arrived on the scene and found at least two adult males outside of the home, one of which was the father of the boy, who was yelling that his son was inside of his bedroom.
The Troopers along with the Deputy and the Angola officer tried to go inside but they were unable to find the boy because of the level of fire, heat and smoke.
The boy was found alive and unconscious by the Angola Fire Department in another part of the home. He was eventually taken to a hospital in Fort Wayne.
The trooper who was injured was released from Cameron Hospital after being treated for smoke inhalation. The Angola officer was also treated and released from Cameron for smoke inhalation and laceration to his hand. The deputy was initially taken to Cameron before being transferred to a Fort Wayne hospital for smoke inhalation.
This fire is currently under investigation by the Indiana State Police, the Angola Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office. No further information is available at this time.
