COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Representatives from a Fort Wayne architectural firm that designs jails throughout he country introduced themselves to Branch County Commissioners on Tuesday as county voters will decide a millage question August 7, 2018 that if approved would lead to a new County Jail.
Michael Gouloff is the principal owner of Elevatis Archtecture.
The county is looking to build a 184 bed jail. He said they submitted a bid last week for a jail project in Greensburg, Indiana that was close to the kind of facility Branch County was looking to build.
The construction costs came is at $19.5 million with another $5 million in additional costs.
Gouloff said the market is changing rapidly. He expects construction costs to go up five to eight percent by the end of the year so his business is telling clients to move now instead of later.
