COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It’s a weather advisory you may never have heard of. The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch from Friday afternoon through Saturday evening for all of southwest Michigan due to hot temperatures and high humidity.
Basically, if you don’t watch yourself, you could face serious health issues. The advisory that was issued Wednesday by the weather service did not mince words. It warned that the steamy conditions will create a dangerous situation that could lead to heat illnesses.
Temperatures are expected to rise into the low to mid 90’s Friday and Saturday with heat index readings from around 100 to near a sauna like 110.
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will likely lead to an increased risk of heat related stress and illness. The very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning and those taking part in strenuous outdoor activities will be the most susceptible.
Do not leave your kids or pets in the car because interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
Make sure you drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and stay out of the sun. Make sure you check up on relatives and neighbors during the steamy conditions.
