COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It’s the type of weather you don’t want to mess around with. The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning which is in effect from noon Friday until 8:00 p.m. Sunday night. This replaces the Excessive Heat Watch that had been in effect since Wednesday.
An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. Forecasters say this will be a long duration extreme heat event. Temperatures are expected to peak into the low to middle 90s today and Sunday with middle to upper 90s on Saturday.
Saturday is expected to be a brutally hot day with heat index readings around 110. Heat readings are expected to get to near 105 on Friday and Sunday.
There will be no relief at night with sticky temperatures in the mid 70s Friday and Saturday night.
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will lead to an increased risk of heat related stress and illness. The very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and those participating in strenuous outdoor activities will be the most susceptible. Car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
