BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – It will be a quiet Fourth of July this year at Branch County’s Gilead Lake.
There will be no fireworks show following last year’s explosion at the public access site which injured four persons.
Understandably, there has been no interest in bringing the show back.
Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber said at the time of the accident that a spark went into a bucket of mortar round type fireworks causing the explosion which blew six people off a pontoon.
Smitty’s Pizza owner and Bronson Community Schools teacher Eric Smith was the most seriously injured.
He and the other injured persons have recovered.
Smith and his helpers put on the fireworks show at Gilead Lake every year up until 2017 thanks to donations from nearby residents.
