COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A former Coldwater High School student who was arrested January 31, 2018 for making a verbal threat against the school and fellow students was sentenced Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after entering a guilty plea to an amended charge of attempted false report or threat of terrorism.
Hunter Bromley was given a total Holmes Youthful Trainee Act sentence of 18 months. That means he will get a chance to keep the criminal matter off of his record.
If a youthful offender between 17 and 23 seeks HYTA in Michigan, they have to plead guilty to a charge or charges. Once the court accepts someone on HYTA, the court does not enter a judgement of conviction and State Police records are closed to the public.
Bromley will be on an electronic monitoring device for six months. He was given a nine month jail sentence with 152 days credit for time already served. All jail time over 152 days was suspended in favor of probation.
In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors dismissed the original count of false report or threat of terrorism.
Bromley was accused of making a threatening comment about getting a gun at a bus stop. The threat was immediately reported to the Principal at the Branch Area Careers Center and Bromley was returned to Coldwater High School. No weapons were found by police.
