COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With an extra $300 million for Michigan road funding in the 2019 fiscal year budget, representatives from the Michigan Department of Transportation presented their construction plans for the next five years to Branch County Commissioners on Thursday.
MDOT’s Corey Hackworth says they plan to modernize traffic signals at 12 locations including five in Branch County.
He said one of the bridge projects will take place on the east side of Coldwater this fall. A beam on the southbound I-69 bridge over the westbound lanes of US-12 was hit a few years ago, and a straightening and repainting project will start after Labor Day. It’s scheduled to be a four-week project.
Other bridge projects on I-69 include those at Newton Road, State Road, the I-69 business loop, and on US-12 at the Coldwater River.
One of the future projects is scheduled for next year on US-12 from the St. Joseph County line to the east of Bronson.
Hackworth added they are looking to get things done all at once around Coldwater in a few years if the projects get approved. That work would include work on US-12 west of Western Avenue, on US-12 between Michigan Avenue and Willowbrook, and in the carpool parking lot at US-12 and I-69.
