FORT WAYNE, IN (WTVB) – A motorcyclist from Avilla, Indiana remains in critical condition at Parkview Regional Medical Center i Fort Wayne, Indiana, after he was badly injured Friday afternoon in a crash on southbound I-69 near Pearl Road in Ovid Township.
52-year-old Robert Kimmel was flown there after he was first taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital.
Witnesses told Branch County Sheriff’s Deputies Kimmel lost control while pulling a motorcycle trailer. He then rolled over several times and was found unconscious. Deputies determined Kimmel did not wear a helmet.
The crash forced a shutdown of southbound I-69 for over an hour and traffic was detoured between the Fenn Road and Kinderhook exits.
The accident remains under investigation by the Branch County Sheriff’s Department.
