COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Another mostly dry and hot weekend around Branch County. Despite a small shower that left some standing water at the curbs of some streets in Coldwater early evening Sunday, Accuweather says there has been no measurable rain in Coldwater so far this month, with the dry spell stretching back to June 27. That is the only day of rain in Coldwater since June 22.
Coldwater normally gets over four inches of rain in July. There are scattered thunderstorms in the forecast for Monday.
The high temperature in Coldwater Sunday was 92 degress.
While Branch County and the surrounding area is not officially considered to be in a drought, the latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows most of the lower peninsula north of Lansing is considered to be “abnormally dry” while the northern part of the Thumb is considered to be in a “moderate drought”.
Nearly 40 percent of the State of Michigan is either abnormally dry or in a moderate drought, up sharply from just seven percent the week before.
