ALLEN TOWNSHIOP, MI (WTVB) – A two year old boy drowned Tuesday night in a Hillsdale County pond.
Michigan State Police say they were called at about 7:00 p.m. to the 2000 block of Hog Creek Road to the reported drowning.
An investigation showed that the two year old got into an aluminum boat which was on the shore of a pond.
The youngster then fell out of the boat and into the pond.
Nearby family members noticed the child was missing. He was quickly found after being in the water for a few minutes.
But he was found to be unconscious and unresponsive.
CPR was initiated immediately and was continued until rescue crews arrived to take over lifesaving efforts.
The child was rushed to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital by Reading Emergency.
The youngster was later pronounced dead after lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful. The name of the boy has not been released. The incident remains under investigation by the State Police who say foul play is not suspected.
Allen Township Fire and Rescue and Reading EMS assisted Troopers at the scene.
