COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Even though some much needed rain fell over the last 10 days of July, the latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor released on Thursday shows all of Branch County is still “abnormally dry” when it comes to the amount of rainfall it has gotten.
The map from the U.S. Drought Monitor at the University of Nebraska has not changed much in the last week. The northern half of Calhoun and the far northern part of Hillsdale County is still considered to have moderate drought conditions.
All of Branch and Saint Joseph Counties along with most of Hillsdale County and southwestern Calhoun County are considered abnormally dry.
The survey shows nearly 25 percent of Michigan is in a moderate drought which is up from 17 percent the previous week. The moderate drought area covers south central Michigan, the northern Thumb and counties near Lake Huron.
Accuweather.com says Coldwater wound up getting 1.42 inches of rain in July which is 2.82 inches below normal for the month.
Coldwater did not get any rain during the first 16 days of July.
