COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners approved a letter Tuesday which gives a six month deadline to UTC Climate, Controls and Security to fix the ongoing problems with the heating, ventilation and air conditioning at the Burnside Senior Center in Coldwater.
A new HVAC system was installed as part of a major renovation to the facility but it has not functioned properly.
At one point, there was such a strong pressure imbalance that the membrane of the flat roof was damaged after it inflated.
The biggest issue has centered around the transducers which converts energy from one form to another.
Carrier Corporation, which is a brand of UTC, installed the rooftop equipment.
A temporary solution to problems with the software was recently implemented, but Commission on Aging Executive Director Amy Duff is seeking a permanent solution. She told commissioners during their work session last Thursday the letter details the problems they have had since the renovation was finished in March 2017.
She said the letter will be sent to the corporate office in Connecticut.
While the letter does not say anything about possible lawsuits, commissioners have discussed legal action in the past if the problems are not fixed.
