COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A man who Coldwater City Police say punched his girlfriend in the head and squeezed her neck until she passed out at the Coldwater Inn and Suites during a fight in June 2018 was ordered to serve two to four years in the Michigan Department of Corrections Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
35-year-old Justin Taylor Weinberg entered a no contest plea to a charge of assault with a weapon.
Charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and domestic violence were dismissed by prosecutors in exchange for the plea. Weinberg was also given credit for 49 days already served.
He had just been released from prison after serving over six years in a Branch County third degree home invasion case. He also has convictions in Saint Joseph County for unlawfully driving away an automobile and breaking and entering.
