STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School girls golf team retained the Sauk Trail Trophy for 2018 Thursday at the Sturgis Match Play event hosted by Island Hills Golf Club.
In the first match play event, Coldwater defeated Harper Creek 5-0. Coldwater then defeated Sturgis 4-3. Elloree Madden won the last hole to take her match. Madden and Hunter Jenkot won both of the matches for the Cardinals.
Anissa Stevens and Morgan Beckhusen both won their matches while Claire Sheppard, Kelly Warner and Taylor Musselman all went 1-1.
Four Coldwater runners earned medals on Thursday as Coldwater’s cross-country teams opened their seasons at the Adrian Invitational. Kathy Potter won the girls race in a time of 20:07.5 followed by her teammate Elka Machan who was ten seconds back in second. As a team, the Lady Cards finished fourth in the eight-team field.
Kyle Foulk was fourth with a time of 18:39.2 and Jose Blankenship finished 19th which gave the Coldwater boys two medals. The boys did not field a full team for the first meet of the season.
In boys soccer, Quincy lost to Grass Lake 5-1. Axel Beltran scored the only goal for the Orioles.
