COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Three building spaces in downtown Coldwater are in the process of being filled.
City Manager Keith Baker told the Downtown Development Authority Board Wednesday the spaces are all next to each other at 21, 23 and 25 West Chicago.
He said renovations are taking place at the future Haas Caywood Law Offices at 21 West Chicago which use to be the location of the Lamp Post building.
The former Chicago Avenue clothing store at 23 West Chicago will be the future location of Rachel’s Salon, while attorney Rhonda Ives will be moving her law offices into the Merriman Building at 25 West Chicago.
In addition, the three story Starr Block Building at 31-35 West Chicago is available after the Salvation Army store closed.
Baker said after the Richard A. Kerr Trust through its trustee at Century Bank and Trust donated the building at 71 and 73 West Chicago, the city has spent money to repair one of the 10 spaces to make it more attractive for tenant use.
Discussions have also been held with the owners of the building at 22 West Chicago where the Smit-T’s store was located. Work is being done to the windows and the facade with plans to turn it into a restaurant or pub.
Historic preservation architect Randy Case of Battle Creek has been recruited by the owners to help out and Baker indicated permits will be coming before the Historic District Commission in the next couple of months.
