COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater, Bronson and Quincy will all be trying to bounce back from opening night losses while Union City hopes to continue their momentum from last week’s blowout win over Galesburg-Augusta as week number two of the high school football season in Michigan takes place this evening, the Thursday before the Labor Day holiday weekend.
All of the Branch County squads play their conference openers tonight. The Cardinals open Interstate 8 play at Hastings. For the first time since 2013, Coldwater dropped their opening game of the season last week as they were beaten by Haslett 28-7. This will be the 24th meeting between Coldwater and Hastings with the Cardinals holding a 16-7 edge in the series.

In the Big 8 Conference, the Quincy Orioles will be going for their seventh straight win over the Bronson Vikings in the 65th meeting between the two Branch County schools. Bronson still leads the all-time series 32-30 with two ties.
Union City opens their Big 8 schedule at Springport. The Chargers pounded the Spartans 40-14 last season and Union City leads the all-time series 36-9. Both teams won their opening games last week. The Chargers stomped Galesburg-Augusta 53-0 while the Spartans defeated Vandercook Lake 47-20.
