COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After several delays, the Business Loop I-69 repaving project maybe finally ready to get underway. The City of Coldwater has posted on its Facebook page that the M.D.O.T. project will begin at the Fenn Road exit on Wednesday.
The work will make its way north and eventually into the City of Coldwater. During construction, periodic one lane closures are possible. Motorists are urged to proceed with caution through the work area.
The project was originally scheduled to start August 13, 2018, but it was pushed back to September 4. The Michigan Department of Transportation’s Nick Schirripa said recently that the contractor asked for the delayed start because of their schedule. He added it’s not uncommon for a contractor to have several projects at once.
Another delay took place last week when the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association locked out members of Operating Engineers Local 324. The two sides have been unable to agree to a new contract after the old deal expired in June.
Union members are responsible for operating heavy machinery at road construction sites.
