COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In an effort to keep water infiltration from getting into the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities sanitary system, the CBPU Board of Directors Tuesday approved a request to line three-quarters of a mile of sanitary interceptor pipe that runs along the Sauk River.
CBPU Director Jeff Budd says the lining will not only extend the useful life of the pipe but it will also rid the sanitary system of significant water infiltration.
He added Inland Waters Pollution Control submitted a bid of over $226,000 for all three phases of the project which was less than the original engineering estimate.
Inland Waters were selected by the board in July to line Industrial Drive with cured-in-place pipe in the first effort to eliminate water infiltration from the sanitary system. Since their $96,000 bid came in under engineering estimates by almost $70,000, engineers requested an addendum to the original contract for the pipe along the Sauk River.
The project will be funded with money from bonds that were sold for sanitary improvements. It’s estimated there’s about $500,000 of bond funds remaining.
