COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A busy intersection on Coldwater’s eastside where there are numerous accidents was the scene of a crash with injuries Wednesday night.
Coldwater City Police say two SUVs collided around 7:30 p.m. on US 12 at Willowbrook Road. According to officers, the collision occurred when a Chevrolet Traverse that was westbound on US 12 turned left into the path of a Dodge Journey that was eastbound on 12. Witnesses told police that the US 12 traffic signal at the time of the accident was red and that both vehicles ran the red light.
The driver of the Traverse was identified as 49-year old Ma-Del Rodriguez-Patlan of Coldwater while officers said the other driver was 28-year old Cassandra Spencer of Girard Township.
Police said Spencer was transported to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
Coldwater Police say the barrels that had been set up for the I-69 overpass construction work were not in place in the U.S. 12 roadway when the accident occured.
The Coldwater Fire Department also responded to the scene to clean up fuel and anti-freeze that leaked onto the pavement. The accident remains under investigation.
