COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – John Petzko was named during Monday night’s Coldwater City Council meeting to finish out the remainder of his late wife Maureen’s term on the council. Third Ward Councilman Mike Beckwith made the recommendation after “a number of very good candidates” expressed an interest.
John Petzko will be sworn in during the next Council meeting on October eighth. Meanwhile, Fourth Ward Council Member Randall Hazelbaker was chosen as Mayor Pro Tem, a position that Maureen Petzko also filled until her resignation from City Council two weeks ago.
Mayor Tom Kramer said traditionally the position goes to the longest serving Council Member which in this case is Chris Pierce. But Pierce’s business interest would prevent him from attending as many Council meetings as he would like so he deferred to Hazelbaker.
